Agriculture Content Specialist: Job Description and Requirements

A role to help design and implement innovative mobile-based technology for the general public. This role is expected to bring field experience and industry knowledge in agriculture to help farmers in underserved communities across the country to have knowledge on various crops they grow and how they can increase productivity in an innovative e-extension system. 

 


 

 

Responsibilities

  • To coordinate with strategic partners to  source, organize and collate materials relevant for building a comprehensive database of agricultural information for farmers
  • To design and develop the collated materials and digitize them into a database repository according to lay down format, structure and scope.
  • To develop actionable SMS messages and Voice transcripts of the content digitized and stored in the database repository.
  • To schedule, create alerts on the developed SMS messages and voice scripts for dissemination to various  networks
  • To manage the voice message recording system and train other team members on how to record, schedule and disseminate voice messages.
  •  To create factsheets containing   content on  priority agric knowledge domains
  • To ensure that content database is updated regularly
  • To create agric tips and sent to clients on time
  • To  support the call center team to provide agricultural helpline services to farmers
  • To perform any other task that may be assigned

 

Competencies

  • A Bachelor’s degree (min) in agronomy, agriculture extension or general agriculture
  • At least five years’ experience in behavior change communication programs, agriculture extension programs,  education messages, GAPs promotion and rural development
  • Ability to network among industry players and be able to play a lead role in sourcing materials from various sources
  • Understanding of IT and mobile
  • Successful at establishing and maintaining good working relationships with key stakeholders including public and private sector institutions
  • Strong editorial skills and ability to decipher complex technical and scientific literature to  bring out key issues relevant for agriculture e-extension programs
  • Be an innovative thinker and ability to develop new approaches to deliver accurate agric content
  • Speak some local languages of Ghana
  • Be passionate about improving agricultural productivity of smallholder farmers and the less privileged in society.
  • Be a great communicator with natural talent at both senior policy making level, as well as people in the field.
  • Be interested and motivated by innovative private business models that leverage ICTs to drive economic development.
  • Have a track record that demonstrates strong leadership, business development and people management skills.
  • Have implemented rural development projects/programs
  • Possess entrepreneurial instincts and understand business.
  • Be willing to work in an exciting start-up and travel when required.
